The Nobel Laureate on Paper

Selma Lagerlöf was born in 1858 in Värmland — the very landscape depicted on this note's front. She grew up on the family estate of Mårbäcka, surrounded by the forests and lakes that would later fill her fiction. When she won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1909, she became the first woman ever to do so. She used the prize money to buy back Mårbäcka, which had been sold to pay debts. The horse carriage scene on the front is drawn from Gösta Berlings Saga, her debut novel — a wild, romantic tale of a defrocked priest and the women who shape his fate.

Nils and the Goose

The reverse depicts one of the most iconic images in Swedish children's literature: young Nils Holgersson, magically shrunk to thumb-size, soaring over Skåne on the back of Mårten the Goose. Lagerlöf wrote The Wonderful Adventures of Nils (1906–07) on commission from the Swedish school board — it was meant to be a geography textbook. Instead, it became a beloved classic translated into over 40 languages. The flatlands of Skåne below are rendered with cartographic precision, a nod to the book's original educational purpose.

The Larger, Earlier Note

This large-type note was the first Swedish banknote to feature Selma Lagerlöf, introduced in 1991. At 130 × 72 mm it is noticeably bigger than the 1997 small-type redesign, and it was demonetized in 2005 — a full eleven years before its successor. Fewer were printed and fewer survive in collectible condition, making VF examples increasingly hard to find at this price point.

Who is World Money Store?

World Money Store is me, Βrian Grοss, the sole proprietor of this small business, based in Washington D.C. I've spend half my adult life in The Netherlands and Mexico and have an addiction to travel, history and languages (Spanish, Dutch Russian and a few others); Arabic my current challenge. My personal instagram is @df2dc.

I've been on ebay for 22 years, and I am also on Whatnot. I put together the website myself, and do all the purchasing.

I travel around the world to personally select a range of banknotes that I KNOW match the interests of my customers, and by traveling to the right places, I get them at the best prices, too.

I have three main groups of customers:

1. the ones who love diverse colorful and affordable notes from around the world

2. those who love to own pieces of the propaganda of communist dictatorships (Cuba, North Korea) and "bad guys" like the Ayatollah, Saddam, Gadaffi. Iran (Shah, Ayatollah), Syria (Assad, current).

3. those who seek Venezuelan and Iranian currency. We sell banknotes for collecting purposes only (our intention).

I happen to have a lot of depth and breadth in Mexico and Brazil, in addition to Cuba and Iran.

I don't focus on anything from the U.S. and Canada, items from before World War II, "lucky" serial numbers, or PMG-graded items.
