Slovenia and the Euro (and the Tolar and the Dollar)
Slovenia launched its first own currency, the tolar in October 1991 (plural tolarjev). The word tolar, the same as dollar, is derived from the medieval coin the Thaler, which in turn was named after the city of Joachimsthal, where they were minted, in Bohemia, now part of the Czech Republic. At first the tolar was pegged to the Deutsche mark at 32 tolarjev to the mark, around 51.5 tolarjev to the US dollar.
By 2007, the tolar was worth one fourth of its initial value in Deutsche marks, at 122.5 tolarjev to the mark. In that year, Slovenia adopted the euro and tolarjev were converted at 239.64 tolarjev to the euro.
Janez Vajkard Valvasor (1641–1693), Slovenia's Leonardo da Vinci
Valvasor was a "Renaissance Man" in every sense. Born in 1641 in Ljubljana, then in the Duchy of Carniola, part of the Austrian Empire, now the capital of Slovenia.
His expertise covered an incredible range of fields:
- Historiography: He wrote the 15-volume encyclopedia The Glory of the Duchy of Carniola (1689), which remains one of the most important historical sources for the region.

Science: He was a pioneer in the study of karst topography (caves and underground rivers). His explanation of the intermittent Lake Cerknica was so advanced for the time that he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in London.
- Cartography (mapmaking): He surveyed and drew detailed maps of Carniola, Croatia, and Carinthia.
- Military: He spent 14 years traveling Europe and serving as a soldier and commander in the Austrian army.
A Legacy of "Labor"
Valvasor’s life is a perfect example of Dulcis ex labore fructus. He spent his entire personal fortune (including selling his castles) to fund the printing and illustrations for his books. While he died in relative poverty, his "fruit" was a permanent cultural foundation for the Slovenian people.

These take between 1 and 3 weeks and cost between 14 and 25 USD depending on the country and service selected.
- Letters to Canada, European Union*, Armenia, Hong Kong, Israel/Palestine, Japan, Macau, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the UK take between one and THREE weeks.
- Letters to Australia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Iceland, Malaysia, Panama, Qatar, Sri Lanka and EU/UK/Aus/NZ overseas territories take between one and FIVE weeks.

World Money Store is me, Βrian Grοss, the sole proprietor of this small business, based in Washington D.C. I happen to have a lot of depth and breadth in Mexico and Brazil, in addition to Cuba and Iran.
I don't focus on anything from the U.S. and Canada, items from before World War II, "lucky" serial numbers, or PMG-graded items.

Banknote Condition Guide (UNC, XF, VF, F etc.)
- UNC (Uncirculated): No folds/creases; full crispness/sheen. May have "half moon" at edge of security thread.
- AU (About Uncirculated): Nearly perfect, with a single light fold or handling mark that doesn't break the paper. Crisp and colorful.
- XF a.k.a. EF (Extremely Fine): Crisp, firm, bright; a few light folds or one firm crease.
- VF Plus: Minor folds/stains; white areas are bright, still not quite Extra Fine.
- VF (Very Fine): Several folds; paper firmer than average; corners lightly worn.
- VF Minus: VF but may show foxing (yellow/brown patches), thinner paper, more folds/wrinkles/small tears (1-3 mm), otherwise intact.
- F (Fine): Well-used, many folds or creases; paper is soft; some soiling and/or pen marks.
- VG (Very Good) / Limp/worn/faded with heavy creasing/edge wear/tears.
