Namibia set of 3 - one of each (read below)

  • P-4 10 dollars 2001 UNC | Captain Hendrik Witbooi ("hat guy") | springbok antelope
  • P-11b 10 dollars 2013 UNC | Dr. Sam Nujoma independence president
  • P-17c 20 dollars 2022 UNC | Dr. Sam Nujoma independence president Y029

One of each major design type

Since independence and up through 2024, Namibia has had three basic different design types in its banknotes (if we disregard commemoratives)

  • Notes with Captain Hendrik Witbooi (the man in the hat) issued in 1993 and (with a small design difference) in 2001
  • Notes with Dr. Sam Nujoma and a diamond shape security feature (2012-2013 type)
  • Notes with Dr. Sam Nujoma without the diamond feature, but adding more subtle security features  (2015, 2025 variations)

This set features one of each of the three major design types, and you also get two different denominations in total, two $10s and one $20, each denomination a different color.

It's a nice overview of a country's entire banknote history in one set!

Note that in 2025, Namibia updated its notes again, removing the parliament and adding a light-colored diamond. This version is not included in this set.

Namibia

  • is a vast, arid southwestern African country where Ovambo farmers, Herero and Nama pastoralists, Damara, San ("Bushmen") foragers, and mixed communities inhabit a land of the Namib Desert, Etosha salt pan, escarpments and Atlantic coast, sustained today by mining (diamonds, uranium), livestock, fishing, and high-end nature tourism. Principal cities are Windhoek (pronounced "vint-huke") the capital, Walvis ("whale") Bay, and the still-quite-German Lüderitz and Swakopmund.
  • was colonized as "German South-West Africa" by the German Empire who in 1904-1908 committed genocide against the Herero and Nama people. After World War One it came under control of South Africa and came to have German, Afrikaans (South African Dutch), and English as official languages. Today, Oshiwambo is the home language of a slight majority, Afrikaans is the spoken lingua franca and English is the written lingua franca and only official language.
  • was subjected from 1948 until independence in 1990 to the apartheid system of separation by "race". Dr. Sam Nujoma (1929–2025) was the central figure in Namibia’s struggle for independence and served as the country’s first President from 1990 to 2005. He is officially honored with the title "Founding Father of the Namibian Nation."

Front: Captain Hendrik Witbooi ("hat guy", we called him, until we read his inspiring story!)

Back: springbok antelope

Hendrik Witbooi (c. 1830 – 29 Oct 1905) was a Nama (Khoikhoi) captain, theologian-warrior, and anti-colonial strategist in what is now Namibia.

Why he matters

  • Religious-political synthesis: Witbooi fused Calvinist theology with Nama customary law. He read history as vocation—resistance as obedience.

  • Written resistance: His letters and diary written in Dutch/Afrikaans, articulate sovereignty, treaty law, and moral limits of war—rare first-person African political theory of the period.

  • Anti-colonial realism: Initially pragmatic with the Germans, he later recognized the colonial project’s inevitability of dispossession and took up arms.

Against German rule

  • Faced German colonial empire during the violent consolidation of German South West Africa.

  • After years of uneasy treaties, he led Nama resistance alongside Herero leaders during the uprising that preceded the Herero and Nama genocide (1904–1908).

  • Killed in action in 1905; his death became a rallying symbol.

Afterlives

  • Memory: Today Witbooi stands as a national figure of conscience—faith without submission, diplomacy without naïveté.

  • Currency: His portrait appeared on many Namibian banknotes, quietly embedding resistance into everyday circulation.

  • Archives: His papers are part of UNESCO’s Memory of the World—not as relics, but as arguments.

Live in the United States? No surprise tariff bills when you receive your shipment!

  • World Money Store ships from the United States, so any and all tariffs due are already covered by us.
  • Live outside the United States? You are not affected by this issue.

Who is World Money Store?

World Money Store is me, Βrian Grοss, the sole proprietor of this small business, based in Washington D.C. I've spend half my adult life in The Netherlands and Mexico and have an addiction to travel, history and languages (Spanish, Dutch Russian and a few others); Arabic my current challenge. My personal instagram is @df2dc.

I've been on ebay for 22 years, and I am also on Whatnot. I put together the website myself, and do all the purchasing.

I travel around the world to personally select a range of banknotes that I KNOW match the interests of my customers, and by traveling to the right places, I get them at the best prices, too.

I have three main groups of customers:

1. the ones who love diverse colorful and affordable notes from around the world

2. those who love to own pieces of the propaganda of communist dictatorships (Cuba, North Korea) and "bad guys" like the Ayatollah, Saddam, Gadaffi. Iran (Shah, Ayatollah), Syria (Assad, current).

3. those who seek Venezuelan and Iranian currency. We sell banknotes for collecting purposes only (our intention).

I happen to have a lot of depth and breadth in Mexico and Brazil, in addition to Cuba and Iran.

I don't focus on anything from the U.S. and Canada, items from before World War II, "lucky" serial numbers, or PMG-graded items.
