Who was Hafez?

Hafez (c. 1315–1390 CE/AD) stands as one of the great voices of classical poetry in this culture, celebrated for verses that glide between earthly longing and mystical insight. Writing in luminous, compact ghazals, he fused wit, irony, and spiritual daring, often using wine, gardens, and nightingales as veils for deeper truths about love, hypocrisy, and the soul’s freedom. His lines invite both contemplation and play, resisting dogma while embracing transcendence, which is why his work has been memorized, quoted, and consulted for centuries as a mirror of inner states rather than a set of rules.
