The Scrappiest Penguin in the South Atlantic

Five species of penguin breed in the Falkland Islands — Magellanic, Gentoo, King, Macaroni, and Rockhopper — making the archipelago one of the most penguin-dense places on earth. Each has its niche. Gentoos sprint through the surf. Kings stand cathedral-tall. Macaronis flash gold crests like minor royalty.

The Southern Rockhopper (Eudyptes chrysocome) is something else entirely. It doesn't waddle to the sea — it jumps, feet together, boulder to boulder, down cliffs that would give a mountain goat pause. It is the smallest of the crested penguins and arguably the most belligerent: quick to jab, quick to screech, utterly indifferent to anything larger than itself.

The Falklands hold one of the largest Rockhopper colonies in the world, concentrated on West Falkland and the offshore islands. They arrive in October, raise their chicks in deafening rookeries, and vanish back to sea by April — a cycle that has played out on these windswept rocks for millennia.

A Coin Shaped Like No Other

The 7-sided equilateral curve heptagon is the same format used for the British 50p — instantly recognizable in the pocket, impossible to confuse with a round coin. Struck in copper-nickel with medal alignment, this circulating commemorative was issued across a five-year run (2017–2021), giving it real circulation history even in UNC survivors.

On one side, the Rockhopper in full character. On the other, the definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II — the monarch whose image appeared on Falkland coinage from 1974 until her death in 2022, bookending the entire modern era of the territory's numismatic history.

Own This Piece of the South Atlantic

A coin that puts the most tenacious bird in the Falklands on one face and the longest-reigning British monarch on the other — struck in a shape you can identify blind, from a territory most people couldn't place on a map. Uncirculated. Ready to hold, display, or add to a thematic wildlife or British Overseas Territories collection.

The Falkland winds don't stop. Neither does the Rockhopper.

Who is World Money Store?

World Money Store is me, Βrian Grοss, the sole proprietor of this small business, based in Washington D.C. I've spend half my adult life in The Netherlands and Mexico and have an addiction to travel, history and languages (Spanish, Dutch Russian and a few others); Arabic my current challenge. My personal instagram is @df2dc.

I've been on ebay for 22 years, and I am also on Whatnot. I put together the website myself, and do all the purchasing.

I travel around the world to personally select a range of banknotes that I KNOW match the interests of my customers, and by traveling to the right places, I get them at the best prices, too.

I have three main groups of customers:

1. the ones who love diverse colorful and affordable notes from around the world

2. those who love to own pieces of the propaganda of communist dictatorships (Cuba, North Korea) and "bad guys" like the Ayatollah, Saddam, Gadaffi. Iran (Shah, Ayatollah), Syria (Assad, current).

3. those who seek Venezuelan and Iranian currency. We sell banknotes for collecting purposes only (our intention).

I happen to have a lot of depth and breadth in Mexico and Brazil, in addition to Cuba and Iran.

I don't focus on anything from the U.S. and Canada, items from before World War II, "lucky" serial numbers, or PMG-graded items.
