Guide to Banknote Conditions
  • UNC (Uncirculated): No signs of circulation, no folds or creases; full original crispness and sheen. A slight ?half moon? from the security thread may appear.
  • AU (About Uncirculated): Nearly perfect, with a single light fold or handling mark that doesn?t break the paper. Crisp and colorful.
  • XF (a.k.a. EF, Extremely Fine): Crisp and attractive with minor handling; a few light folds or one firm crease. Still firm and bright.
  • VF Plus: VF with fewer folds and stains than the average VF note; any white areas mostly bright; not quite XF.
  • VF (Very Fine): Circulated with several folds; paper firmer than average; corners lightly worn.
  • VF Minus: VF but may show some of the following: light yellow/brown patches from humidity or foxing, thinner paper, more folds/wrinkles, and/or small tears (usually 1?2 mm, not more than 5 mm). Otherwise intact.
  • F (Fine): Well-used, many folds or creases; paper is soft; some soiling may be visible.
  • VG (Very Good) / Heavily Circulated: Limp and worn with heavy creasing, edge wear, and possible small tears; design may be faded.
