Front:
- Bashar Hafez al-Assad (born Sep. 11, 1965) is a Syrian ex-dictator from 2000 until his fall on Dec. 8, 2024. The UN and others accuse him of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Syria's 2011-24 Civil War: systematic torture and deaths in detention, disappearing and indiscriminately attacking civilians, housing and civilian infrastructure, and using chemical weapons. Russian president Vladimir Putin gave him asylum and Assad lives in luxury in Moscow.
- The Umayyad Mosque (الْجَامِع الْأُمَوِي), also known as the Great Mosque of Damascus (جَامِع بَنِي أُمَيَّة الْكَبِير), is one of the largest, oldest and most important in Islam because of its historical and eschatological reports and events associated with the mosque.
Back: Parliament — the People's Assembly of Syria (مجلس الشعب, Majlis al-Shaʿb), completed in 1971 on Umayyad Square, Damascus.
The Butcher of Syria, Flip Over for a Meaningless Parliament
Oh, the irony of featuring a dictator, and on the same note, a parliament that he made meaningless
The Syrian People's Assembly (مجلس الشعب) building in Damascus was completed in 1971 — a modernist structure built under Hafez al-Assad's early rule, deliberately functional and austere rather than grand. It sits on Umayyad Square, one of Damascus's main ceremonial spaces.
It's a parliament building in a country that has never had a functioning parliament in any meaningful democratic sense. The Assad family ruled by emergency law from 1963 to 2011 — 48 years — during which the "parliament" was essentially a rubber stamp. Elections were held regularly; candidates ran unopposed or from a single approved list.
The building was shelled and damaged during the 2011–2024 civil war — a parliament building attacked in a country where parliament had no real power.
The square it faces — Umayyad Square — references the same Umayyad Caliphate as the mosque on the front of the note, creating an interesting visual dialogue on the banknote between ancient Islamic legitimacy (the mosque) and modern authoritarian statehood (the parliament).

- Live outside the United States? You are not affected by this issue.

Who is World Money Store?
World Money Store is me, Βrian Grοss, the sole proprietor of this small business, based in Washington D.C. I've spend half my adult life in The Netherlands and Mexico and have an addiction to travel, history and languages (Spanish, Dutch Russian and a few others); Arabic my current challenge. My personal instagram is @df2dc.
I've been on ebay for 22 years, and I am also on Whatnot. I put together the website myself, and do all the purchasing.
I travel around the world to personally select a range of banknotes that I KNOW match the interests of my customers, and by traveling to the right places, I get them at the best prices, too.
I have three main groups of customers:
1. the ones who love diverse colorful and affordable notes from around the world
2. those who love to own pieces of the propaganda of communist dictatorships (Cuba, North Korea) and "bad guys" like the Ayatollah, Saddam, Gadaffi. Iran (Shah, Ayatollah), Syria (Assad, current).
3. those who seek Venezuelan and Iranian currency. We sell banknotes for collecting purposes only (our intention).
I happen to have a lot of depth and breadth in Mexico and Brazil, in addition to Cuba and Iran.
I don't focus on anything from the U.S. and Canada, items from before World War II, "lucky" serial numbers, or PMG-graded items.
